Fly Fishing the Caddo River in Arkansas

We took a small vacation and spent a few days in Hot Springs, AR in July. One day we drove down to Murfressboro to dig for diamonds, http://www.craterofdiamondsstatepark.com/. I expected this to be boring, but after getting out there and digging and sleucing, I quickly became hooked. We met people from all over the US. We spoke with a guy who had found a diamond 3 weeks earlier worth $25,000. He and a friend had 88 five gallon buckets to sleuce. On our way back, we stopped and fished the Caddo River for about an hour. This is a beautiful little river with some nice runs. There isn't any trout in this river, but there are smallmouth, largemouth, and bream. We caught a few bass and bream. My wife, Stephanie, took the pics. With me are my 13 year old, Will, and my 9 year old, Grant. It was just good to get in the water and wet a fly.

Mature doe with longbow

I shot this mature doe the afternoon of October 23rd. I was hunting in an area that had several oaks dropping acorns. She was about 20 yards when I released my arrow. My longbow is a Wes Wallace Royal, 64" long, 54# at 28". I used a Zwickey No Mercy to take this deer. My arrow struck right in the shoulder, going completely through. This is the second deer I have taken from the same stand.

Bear Creek Canoe Trip

We spent the first weekend in August canoeing Bear Creek. This creek has one Class III rapid this is very doable in a canoe. It was a very hot day, luckily the water was about 50-55 degrees giving us a continuous cool down opportunity.

Pre-Spring Fling Archery Shoot

Here are a few pics from a traditional bowshoot the last weekend in February 2010. This was at Tanneyhill State Park in McCalla, AL. Terry Harris does a great job of putting bow shoots together. He also hosts the Howard Hill Shoot every June at the same location. With me is my eight year old son, Grant. We got to have some great father/son time together and had a blast.

Right Place, Right Time

I was hunting a funnel well travelled by big bucks during the rut. This beautiful 10 point scored 138 P&Y. Took this guy with my Rivers Edge recurve. I had a 2 blade Magnus head on my arrows on this day. He barely made it 100 yards before going down. December of 2008, Mississippi

Rafting the Chattooga

This adventure was in April of 2008. This was my first trip down this wild river. This rapid was very challenging, but fun. Our guides were Southeastern Expeditions and they did a great job. The day after this trip, we ran the 5K Lake Hartwell Dam run.
